Cordie is married to her husband of more than 30 years and is the proud mother of two wonderful sons.
Freelance Writer
Cordie's first work as a writer was unexpected. A local businessman noticed her writing ability while working together on a church committee and asked her to do a project for his business. He also passed her name to an associate. Cordie found these two small projects very satisfying but she was busy in a career and did not further pursue writing at that time. Her writing skills were nonetheless put to good use in her work at a medical research center and with a computer consulting firm, as well as other volunteer activities.
More recently, as Cordie sees an empty nest in her future, she has allowed the long simmering idea of establishing a writing career to percolate. Writing search engine optimized web content meshes perfectly with her interest in web design.
Medical Research
In her final years of college, while she pursued a degree in Biology/Human Physiology, Cordie was recruited by one of her professors to work at a medical research center. She was involved in several diverse lines of research including the affects of air pollution on children, a monitoring technique for arthritic joints, and biosteriometric analysis of breast cancer. She co-authored three papers that were published in scientific journals.
Computer Software Programmer / Design
While involved in medical research at the university and the research center, there was a need for someone to become familar with a statistical analysis software program. This interested Cordie so she taught herself how to use the software and was soon called upon to find additional ways to process the data beyond what the software was designed to do. Her professors found her newfound skills so helpful that they encouraged her to take a Fortran class in the engineering department. From this inauspicious beginning, Cordie eventually left the research center and was hired by a computer consulting firm. She thoroughly enjoyed working with many clients, using several different programming languages, and working on computers ranging from mainframes to PCs. Several clients asked specifically for her when they were starting new projects.
Currently, Cordie is interested in the usability issues of web design.
Parenting and Education
Cordie began her family a bit later than many. Having already spent many years in challenging and satisfying work, she decided to dedicate her full time effort to parenting. Although she took on a number of short term computer related projects over the years, she spent most of her time homeschooling her two sons. To that end, she refreshed her academic skills as needed and discovered, through both research and trial and error, the teaching methods that best met the needs of her children. Her home teaching experience includes K through 12.
