  • Trouble with Importing Excel Data in Expression Web

Once, I was able to use the method of importing and excel table that this article about importing Excel data to a webpage in Expression Web.

Since then every time I try it flits to the rtf conversion window and then comes up with the message that this file is already in use. It refers to the temp Temporary internet files\WebtempDir\wp8r5xpg.xls. It comes up with a new file name each time, with the extension xls. I have emptied this folder. I have renamed the file, rebooted. I have used cleaners.

I have even reloaded XP onto another drive. Loaded only Office 2007 and Expression Web. Same result. I have posted a few times but have been told you cannot import a .xls file like this.

You say I can, the book by Nolan also says you can. I have done it ONCE only. And it worked so well.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

This sounds like it could possibly be an Office 2007 compatibility issue. If I save the file in Excel 2007 format (.xslx extension) and try the import, I get a similar message. However, if I save the file in Excel with the Excel 97-2003 format first, I have no trouble. I know you referenced an .xls file rather than an .xslx file in your question, but at which stage are you converting the file? Also, are you using Expression Web 2 or the original version of the software?

    Thanks!

I have tried saving to the 2003 format and it does not help. Still says this file is in use.

As I said originally, it worked the first time I insetered and then would never again work. Where could I look to find what the proplem is ie "the file is already open" when as far as I know it is not.

Surley there must be many people importing XLS files into expression web. Is there perhaps another alternative.

    Thanks
