For people with no coding experience whatsoever, simply adding a toolbar to a website can be a daunting task. However, this is where services such as Conduit's custom toolbar creator come in handy. Although it is always best to get a designer/developer, Conduit is completely free and features a simple "what you see is what you get" creation method. Conduit has a fair amount of features and customizations.

Conduit's main flagship feature is whats called a "community" toolbar. This let's users customize the toolbar with their own additions when on your site. Understand that community toolbar is not the same as a navigational menu that comes standard on many website templates and blogs. Instead, a community toolbar allows your website users to add a special "Your Website" toolbar to their browser. For example, you have probably been prompted to install The Google Searchbar, or Yahoo Toolbar before... This is like creating a similar toolbar that showcases your sites features.

Sample Travelocity Toolbar Created With Conduit

To get started, you will first need to navigate over to the Conduit homepage. Next, you will need to create an account. As always, you will be required to fill in your information, create a password, and enter some basic information about your website. Be sure that you know your website's URL, and decide what you want to name your new toolbar.

After logged-in to your recently created Conduit account, you will be brought to the toolbar editor screen. This screen is very simple to navigate. In the center of the screen, you will see your toolbar. Click the edit button located directly below the toolbar. This will bring you to a new screen with a list of components that you can add to your Conduit toolbar. To add an element, simply click the add button located right next to the the listing.

After an element is added to the Conduit toolbar, you can click the element on the toolbar to adjust its settings. Each element will have different configuration options and customizations. For example, if you want to add your own logo to the menu, start by clicking the logo listing. After you see the logo icon appear on your toolbar, click it. This will bring up the customization settings for "logo" where you can choose to upload your own logo.

Check out all of the modules and add whatever you'd like.

When finished, simply click the large blue button in the upper right-hand corner titled "install my toolbar".

That's all there is to it. Your new toolbar should now be ready to go and automatically installed on your website. Anytime you want to customize the toolbar, just log-back in through the Conduit website and make updates.
