Adding to a web page

This process can be repeated (in the registered version) with multiple tags, and then the whole configuration is saved to disk as a ‘project’ in its own directory.

To use the resulting text tags in a web page requires a three-step process. First, the user copies a folder called ‘websitefontdata’, which contains the necessary JavaScript functions and .SWF files, from the project directory to the root directory of their website. Second, a block of code has to be copied into the <HEAD> section of the page where the user wants the text effects to appear. Finally, the user employs the appropriate tags on that web page. Any text on the page bracketed between those tags will appear in a browser as Flash text with that formatting – provided the browser has Flash and JavaScript installed. This process can be carried out on a local system and the result then debugged if necessary before being uploaded to the web.

I had a couple of problems with Website Font 4.0 – not counting the cheesy music which plays at the end of the installation process. The internal preview panel worked once, immediately after installation, then never again. This wasn’t a major problem, as I could simply press the Preview button to see it in my browser. The other issue was more of a semantic one – although it’s called Website Font, there doesn’t seem to be any way to apply its changes to more than one page at a time. Webpage Font, OK! But how many people these days work with just one webpage? I’m willing to bet that there is some clever way to include the Website Font settings in a template file, but if there is CoffeeCup haven’t told us about it.

Website Font 4.0 is available from www.coffeecup.com for $US34. A trial version can be downloaded from the site and will run for 21 days, but only allows one HTML tag to be altered at a time. It's a fun program at a fair price but I would love to see a way it could be applied to several pages at once.
