WordPress Gallery Tutorial: Assigning Roles to Users
Page content

In part four of this series, I will show you how to assign different roles to the different users on your site. You can assign different gallery roles to your users, so they can create galleries too. We will go through each option for assigning roles. To get to the roles section, you will need to click the Gallery tab and then click the Roles link.

Main NextGEN Gallery overview – This allows for the assigned role to have complete control of the NextGEN gallery. If there is a user that you want to assign to this position, drop the box down and select the user.

Use TinyMCE Button / Upload tab – This option allows assigned users to upload images and slideshows. Drop the box down and assign this role to the user of your choice.

Add gallery / Upload images – With this option, the assigned user can only create galleries and upload images. Again, drop the box down and select the user of your choice for this role.

Manage gallery – This option allows the assigned user to manage the gallery. By managing the gallery, they cad delete galleries, edit galleries, and more.

Edit Album – This option allows a user to only edit albums.

Change style – The style option will only allows the assigned users to change the style of the galleries.

Change options – This option allows assigned users to change the options of the WordPress gallery. This option gives users a lot of authority too.

After you have assigned the roles to the users of your choice, click the Update button. Be careful when assigning these roles. Someone can mess the entire gallery up if you assign the different options to different users. If it were me, I would only allow administrators to have complete control over the gallery. You can set it to where certain users can create their own albums, but that is as far as I would go. However, it is your site, so the decision is up to you.

If you are unfamiliar with the different roles on WordPress, please see this tutorial. This tutorial will break down each role and explain to you what each role is. Each role has a different permissions and this tutorial explains the different permissions. Before creating the roles for the gallery, you should already have the roles assigned to users in WordPress.
