In part three of the Settings Section tutorial, I will show you how to navigate through the Permalinks and the Miscellaneous sections of WordPress. These are the last two sections in the Settings section. So, lets finish up with the Settings section.
Navigating the Permalinks Section of WordPress
The permalinks determine how your links will be displayed in your browser. It will also determines how links will be seen by search engines. In the permalinks section, you will see the different choices that you have for the links. It is best to link your posts and pages by using the title of the post or page. These links are known as search engine friendly links because search engines will pick them up quicker.
There are three options that you can use to create the above links that I was talking about. You can use the day and name option, month and name option, or the default option. The default option is display the year, month number, and the name of the post. Tick the field of your choice. If your blog is set to be read by search engines, I would recommend using one of the three that are search engine friendly if you want search engines to pick it up.
Navigating the Miscellaneous Section of WordPress
The miscellaneous section is where you change your settings for your images and uploaded files. Click the Miscellaneous link to view this section. The first field is asking where you want uploaded files to be stored. By default, they are stored in the Upload folder. You can leave them in this folder if you want. If you want to use another folder, you will need to create the folder and type the name of the folder in the first field.
The bottom section is where you determine the size of your thumbnails for images. You can change the sizes in the fields or you can leave them as they are.
That wraps up the three part tutorial on navigating your Settings Sections of WordPress.
