The Options menu of Google's browser boasts various sub-menus to enhance user experience. One of them is the Search option that allows you to add different search and metasearch engines for a faster search experience.

When you type a keyword, you get websites, images, and videos on the SERPs. But there are certain search programs that display web page links, images and videos after fetching results from other major search providers. They are known as metasearch engines. Dogpile is once such provider that retrieves results from Bing, Google and Yahoo, as well as those that provide audio and video results. It was launched in 1996 and is one of the most popular search providers on the World Wide Web. Like other search engines, you can add it to the Google Chrome browser and also make it the default search engine. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial:

Guide to Make Dogpile Your Default Search Provider

One of the main advantages of Google's new browser, besides fast browsing, is the simple, and uncluttered interface. It is much quicker than IE or Firefox in displaying web pages.

The best aspect is the ability to search and navigate from the address box itself. Just type in a search term in the address bar and you will see search results displayed directly. While Google is the default search engine, you can add more search providers. Let’s take the example of Dogpile. This step-by step guide will teach you how to add this search provider to your browser. (Note: Please click on screenshots to enlarge)

1. Open your browser and click on the Customize and Control button in the top-right corner of the browser. The button has an icon shaped like a wrench.

2. From the drop down list, click Options. You will see a dialog box pop out. It has three tabs: Basics, Personal Stuff and Under the Hood.

3. On the Basics tab, click on the Manage button in the Default Search section. A dialog box named Search Engines will pop out. You will notice three blank fields in the Other Search Engines section. Type the name, for example Dogpile on first blank field. You will also have to type the keyword in the second box and URL with %s in place of query in the third box.

4. There's another easy way to add Dogpile. All you have to do is keep the Basics tab open and open a new tab. Type in www.dogpile.com on the browser address bar and press enter. Now, return to the settings tab and you will see the metasearch engine automatically shows up in the Other Search Engines section. Mouse over and click Make Default.

5. Now, every time you type a search term on your browser's address bar, you will see the search engine showing the search results. This is the easiest way you can add Dogpile to Google Chrome browser.

Additional Tip - You can also click on Options, select Open this Page on the Homepage section and type the URL http://www.dogpile.com/. Now, whenever you will open the browser you will find the metasearch engine as the default homepage.

RE: How to Add Dogpile to Google Chrome Browser
None of the methods you listed worked for me. However, on the main page for Dogpile search there is a heading "Quickstarts". Listed under this heading is a link for "Add Dogpile to your browser". I clicked the link, added "dogpile" as the key word & it was added to my list of search engines under "basics/manage search engines".

RE: How to Add Dogpile to Google Chrome Browser
Hi Danny,

A simpler trick to add Dogpile in your search engine list and make it default the defaullt search engine would be:

1. In a new tab, first type www.dogpile.com and press the enter key.

2. Now click on the wrench icon on the top-right corner of the browser. Click Options

3. Under the Basics tab, click on the Manage button in the Default Search section.

4. You will see Dogpile already added to the list. Click on Dogpile and then click on Make Default.

5. Now type in any search term in the URL box (the address bar) and check whether the search result is displayed or not.

RE: Improve Your Search Experience in Chrome With Dogpile
Doesn't really work. In every few searches dogpile would go to its homepage instead of displaying its search result.
