You have probably seen many videos on YouTube referred to you by friends and family members, linked in an email or on a social network. But have you ever wondered how to make a YouTube video of your own and upload it to your very own YouTube account for others to see? Here’s how.

How to make a YouTube video

First, you must create your own account by visiting the YouTube website. If you do not have a previous recorded video, and are using a Windows XP or Windows Vista version of windows, and would like to use your webcam to create a video you can do so by using Windows Movie Maker. This program should already be installed on your computer. Be sure that your webcam and microphone are properly connected. Once you have located your Windows Movie Maker software you are now ready to begin. By selecting the "import from digital video camera” option your webcam will be located and you can begin the recording process. When you are done, make sure to save this file in a memorable location to make it easier to locate before you begin uploading. Try to make sure that each video is somewhere under 10 minutes or so long to assure that it properly uploads and is of best quality. You may then use your Windows Movie Maker software to add captions and edit any one or several videos in to one completed video.

Also, if you already have a previously recorded video, from a video recorder, a digital camera or even a cell phone and would like to begin uploading all your footage; from family trips, funny occurrences, holidays, special events and much, much more you can do so. Once you have transferred the video to your computer and have the file properly saved onto your hard drive you can, either, use the Windows Movie Maker software to edit your videos in the same fashion stated previously or you may go ahead and start uploading the videos to your account as they are. (For a step by step “How to” and to answer any further questions you may have regarding Windows Movie Maker visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/create/1stmovie.mspx and watch the video that will walk you through the steps.)

Once you are all done with the completion of your video you can continue the upload part of the process by selecting the "My videos" tab in your YoutTube account. Then select the "Start uploading a video now" tab. You will then see a pop up from your hard drive instructing you to select which file to upload. After you have selected the file you would like, it will then instruct you to add the video's title, description and tags. Once you have all the information correctly provided you are ready to select "upload" and the process will begin.
