An element? An internet browser? How about both. This article provides an overview of Google Chrome, and its not so shocking resemblance to the element chromium.

When hearing the word “chrome” the first thought is “wheels”. We don’t think technology, computers and certainly not Google. The majority of us haven’t taken a look at a periodic table since high school, and considering chromium isn’t a well-known element we’re even more in the dark.

What is Chromium?

According to Dictionary.com, chromium is a lustrous, hard, brittle, metallic element used in alloy steels for hardness and corrosion resistance, as in stainless steel, and for plating other metals: chromium salts are used as pigments and mordants.

In Google’s case, Chromium is the name of the project resulting in Chrome. Chrome is an open source internet browser manufactured by Google. When taking a closer look at the element chromium and Google Chrome the similarities are quite interesting.

Google Chrome and Chromium (the element)

Appearance.

When chromium is compounded it forms the colors green, orange, red and yellow. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out these are the primary colors of the Google logo (minus the orange of course).

Another observation is the interface of Google Chrome. Its silver, shiny, and sleek layout is a spitting image of the glossy metal chromium. This metal can be polished to reach its maximum beauty. Does Chrome have hidden potential? Is Google telling us that although Chrome receives many praises, the best is yet to come?

Performance.

Just as chromium doesn’t show any signs of resistance, neither is Chrome. The popularity of this browser is quickly rising and is showing no signs of slowing down. With its speed and security features this browser is prepared for threats of any level.

As for the future performance of Google Chrome, we cannot say. The element chromium is often used as a catalyst (a substance that initiates or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected). If Chrome is a spitting image of the element, then we can only expect good things from Google in the future. So far, so good.

Until just recently, when we hear the word chrome we think Google. This user-friendly browser been built to ensure safety and performance for years to come. Downloading Google Chrome is a decision you will not regret. Enjoy!
