There are a few easy ways to make the Google News page exactly what you want to see.

Google and the News

Google news is a great way to have a customizable page of daily events to look over with your morning bagel and coffee. Instead of having to pile through different websites, RSS feeds, and blogs looking for exactly what you want, Google News helps you itemize the material you see. There are some very simple ways to customize Google New directly to what you want.

Basic Changes

When you are at the Google main page go to the News option in the upper left hand side. Now you will be taken to a complete news page that gives you different departments, a whole updated news feed of urgent breaks, and then a line of articles on the right hand side. Directly above this is a button that says Personalize This Page. Once you do this you will be given a window where you are able to put the different departments that were on the left hand bank into the order of importance that you would want them in. What you do is select each department and then drag them around until they are in the order that you would want. This order goes left to right and top to bottom, with each row having the left option be on top. Below this options there are some that you can add, such as a recommended news section and a local section. At the very bottom you can also make it so there are just headlines or if you would like it to return to its default settings. Once you have customized it to your liking you can press the Save Layout button, but to actually close this window once the changes have been made you hit the close button in the upper right hand corner of this window.

Recommended and Local

Once you have set to have recommended and local stories these options will appear below. At the top of the local section there will be a search function, which you must enter your zip code into the box. Now it will save in your preference. Next to it will be the recommended feed, and you have to hit the Add Section button at the very beginning of the list. Here it can coordinate with your GMail account, providing that you already have one set up.
