Google Labs: GAUDI (Google Audio Indexing)

 The playground workers at the Googleplex have made another step forward in their mission to "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful" with their advance in search. Hundreds of pages are made each day, and Google has those pages indexed and ready for you to search through. However, there are also hundreds of videos uploaded each day, and now sifting though those videos is not only done with tags and titles, but with the content as well.

Essentially, videos are not treated just as a video with some information attached to it. They are now treated as audio information available to search through. If someone made a speech, you can now search for that video by what topics are spoken about.

This advance in search is not quite revolutionary, but instead evolutionary. You have the ability to search the world’s information by more than just text. All we have to do is be able to search through people’s thoughts.

Using this technology, or anything Google-related, is extremely easy to use. Go to http://labs.google.com/gaudi, and conduct a general video search. You are searching not only the tags and title, but now spoken word. With the results you receive, you can use video channels to improve your search results, but now there is so much more you can do.

When you chose a video, the top ten time periods in the video closest related to your search query is highlighted within the video timeline. However, you can also search within the video to find other time periods that you may want to hear. To view those periods, just click the highlighted area in the timeline, and the video will jump to it.

As of yet, this technology is restricted to the videos related to the Unites States presidential election only. This allows Google to show off the technology and to perfect the technology. When this technology implemented on a much larger scale, it will work flawlessly and will be second nature to us.
