Malwarebytes Review

If you want to keep your system free from viruses there is only one tool to use. Read more to see why Malwarebytes beats the big names in system security.

Until recently I worked as a computer tech, and a major part of my job was to remove viruses. Viruses have become a bigger problem over the last few years as virus writers started monetizing their wares. Fake antivirus applications seemed to be a particularly big hit. It was ironic that all the advertising done by Microsoft and other software providers to encourage users to update their systems was flying back in their faces as the virus writers mimicked the look of the security centre and legitimate Windows prompts.

What was disturbing was the number of systems I was seeing that were infected despite having up to date antivirus. I saw systems “protected” with all the big names like Symantec, Mcafee, Trend and other still falling prey to viruses.

In order to automate the virus removal process I created a Bart-PE boot disk, which boots a copy of Windows from a CD, providing a clean environment to work from, and then scripted 4 command line antivirus applications to scan the system: Mcafee, Avira, Kaspersky and Panda. This CD was updated every week. And despite running 4 up to date antivirus products from a clean environment where rootkits and the viruses themselves could not interfere, almost all of these fake antivirus programs were still not getting cleaned off.

In truth this initial scan from the Bart-PE environment was a formality, because the only tool that actually managed to remove the viruses and spyware was Malwarebytes. Funnily enough I first learned about Malwarebytes from our antivirus provider, who was at the time unable to remove a particularly tenacious piece of spyware. I have never looked back.

Malwarebytes quick scan is quick and effective. I have never seen a quick scan from Malwarebytes say that an infected system is clean, and if need be you can run a full scan just to be sure that everything has been cleaned up. As a rough estimate (and I have cleaned up hundreds of infected systems) Malwarebytes picks up and removes spyware 9 out of 10 times. It’s quick to download, easy to install and reinstall, and doesn’t require a system reboot when installing or updating.

These days I run antivirus out of habit, but I know that the only thing protecting my system is Malwarebytes. I could not recommend it enough – it is the only tool I have seen that will keep you protected, and I have tried a lot of them.
