Want to jump start your college credits by perfecting your Spanish? This article will lead you to the resources you need.
In the past year, I've published three books with McGraw-Hill that will be of interest and value to homeschoolers. The three books address the significant trouble areas for English speakers studying Spanish: The Subjunctive, The Pronoun System and Past Tenses.
One feature that is making these books attractive is their price: $11.95 each. Another great feature is the fact that they have a lot of exercises. What’s more, since each book has answer keys which go beyond just giving an answer -- they explain the answers in English, and yet from the point of view of a native speaker of Spanish. These features liberate teachers from having to keep explaining answers. A further advantage is that if a student doesn’t understand the explanation, the key becomes an instant diagnostic tool. The keys often also explain why other answers are incorrect.
Another feature that makes them appealing is their versatility – chapters can be used in any order, depending on the main text!
Recently, after examining copies of each of my books, one very exclusive private school in Bellevue, Washington decided to adopt all three of them for their Spanish program for grades 9-12, as well as their Advanced Placement classes – for the added value these books place on independent grammar review.
About the same time, the director of an immersion program in Veracruz, Mexico credited my subjunctive book with motivating them to revise their curriculum with regard to that topic. The Director himself informed me they also are examining the other two books to see how they might use them to improve other aspects of their curriculum.
As one professor from Peru pointed out, it often is difficult for a native speaker of Spanish to effectively and concisely explain Spanish grammar and morphology to English speakers. Likewise, parents of homeschoolers will welcome the clear, concise and complete explanations of every concept.
So I hope you will recommend my texts as supplements to existing homeschooling Spanish programs.
If you would like to discuss my books, linking our pages or other marketing or pedagogical issues, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss them. Just give me a call: 206 281 2985 or drop me an e-mail at kamiki@spu.edu. I’m also open to linking to your page from my blog or website. Likewise, I am available as a presenter for conventions, workshops and conferences. Visit my website and my blog too, if you're interested in tips, ideas and other resources for studying Spanish.
Of course, I also love to hear from homeschooling families about my books, so I thank you in advance for forwarding this to user groups and newsletter editors in the homeschooling communities everywhere!
