Learn about the difference between hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. This article focuses on the hyperthyroid condition and the herbal remedies that can heal the condition.

What is Hyperthyroidism?

The thyroid gland is what produces hormones for the body. These hormones are responsible for many functions and purposes. Among these are for cell function and metabolism.

Hyperthyroidism is when the gland is over active and produces too much. This results in the rapid movements of the body. This can include the heart rate, nervous system and basically all of the systems of the body. It can be dangerous. The symptoms of hyperthyroidism are: weight loss, anxiety, hair loss, hyperactivity, irritability, depression, tremors and sweating.

Hyperthyroidism vs. Hypothyroidism: What is the difference?

Some people have a tendency to use these terms synonymously. This is incorrect. They are two very distinct and opposite conditions. As we have already discussed, hyperthyroidism is the over active thyroid. Hypothyroidism is a lacking thyroid or and under active gland.

The difference is very clear. We see what the hyperthyroid symptoms are, but with hypothyroidism a person will notice significant weight gain due to a slow or inactive gland.
