A famous eastern philosopher, Yogananda once wrote: "The whisperings of the mind causes a dynamic force that transforms the physical matter in what we wish. If we believe in something-intensely-- the mind will materialize it"
Yogananda’s words summarize what creative visualization is all about. Creative visualization is a process or working technique that involves imagination, visualization, and ultimately creation of our reality. What we imagine for ourselves (good or bad) is what we get. The fundamentals of the creative visualization technique can be read here. Creative visualization involves a number of practices including relaxation techniques and the mental screen technique.
If you close your eyes you will “see“ or experience a sort of darkness. This dark area, located within your head, between your eyes, is the mental screen of your mind and is where you will be projecting images for the creative visualization process.
Before learning to consciously use the mental screen technique you will have to learn how to relax. There are many ways to do this. Use whatever works out for you but the idea is to go into “relaxation mode” before using the mental screen technique. Relaxation helps to overcome the obstacles that our reality and previously misunderstood concepts in our consciousness have imposed on us.
Once relaxed and with eyes closed, see and experience your mental screen. You can make it as detailed as you want it. I prefer to keep it simple such as imagining it to be a movie screen. Remember that the mental screen is located between your eyes and in front of them. This is what eastern philosophy refers to as the third eye.
For the creative visualization process to work you have to use images of whatever you want and project them on your mental screen. As with everything in life you will have to start with simple objects and work to more powerful images as you gain confidence in the Creative Visualization process and the mental screen technique.
Start for example with a lemon and project the image of it onto your mental screen. At first you will probably “see” it in black and white. Work out the image and add color, then add the texture of it. Also, add the smell and taste if you can. At this time you will probably experience a mouthwatering sensation such as if you had the lemon in front of you. Then you will know the mental screen technique is working.
Any image of what you want should be projected into your mental screen and kept there in your active meditation times. You will have to practice this technique so you can improve. Once you have learned how this technique works, start working out your personal goals. Let’s suppose it is a house (a complex goal). Imagine the house you want in your mental screen. See it there. The color of the outside. As you project the images of the house of your dream incorporate the feeling of being inside, of doing backyard work on a sunny day, playing with your kids, etc. Make it as realistic as possible. One day “your dream” will come true by virtue of this basic Mental Screen technique.
