Up until our more recent history, it was not uncommon for healers and doctors to utilize the healing properties of gemstones, whether as a tonic through the medium of water, or as a protective amulet to ward off negative forces and disease. They have been in fact an important facet of healing for thousands of years.
The art of using gemstones for healing has been passed down through different cultures; from the folklore of Native Americans and Australian Aborigines, to the written texts of the Ancient Chinese and Indian doctors. The renowned Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder, as well as the 12th century female holistic healer and spiritual leader, Hildegard von Bingen both used gemstones for healing. There are even references to the healing properties of gemstones in Biblical scriptures. With such a rich history in the realm of medicine, the natural elements of the earth perhaps deserve a second look in the modern world. Through an understanding of vibrational energy patterns, combined with today's technology, could we develop even more profound avenues for healing than either the past or the present has even witnessed?
Moonstone The healing properties of moonstone revolve around lunar energy. It's energy continually expands and contracts, instigating action, growth, and flow of consciousness. Moonstone can be used to calm the mind and emotions. It also has a cooling effect on the body.
Opal Opal can be reddish, yellow, or orange. In ayurveda, it is the 'gem of God', promoting love, faith, understanding, and benevolence. This gemstone can also be used to encourage growth in children.
Pearl From the sea, this gemstone contains calcium carbonate. Its healing vibration is calming and cooling, as well as strengthening. Pearls are known as blood purifiers. They also are used to treat any bleeding, for example bleeding gums, as well as internal inflammation.
Red Coral Red coral is supposed to absorb the energy emitted from Mars. It is helpful for people who have too much hate, anger, and jealousy. Along with the pearl, it contains calcium carbonate and works as a blood purifier.
Ruby The ruby is a powerful gemstone for the mind, promoting intelligence and concentration. Its energy is also useful for the blood, not as a purifier, but to improve circulation, strengthen blood vessels, remove blood clots, and support the heart.
Sapphire Sapphire can absorb the negative energy of Saturn. It is a great stone to wear for people with arthritis. Sapphire's vibrational energy also helps with sciatica, nerve pain, epilepsy, and hysteria.
Topaz Topaz can be a variety of hues, from greenish-yellow to reddish-blue. This gemstone increases resolve, passion, and intelligence, while at the same time dissolving fear. Its vibrational energy affects the consciousness by offering a broader perspective. It a useful tool for trying to figure out life when things seem unclear; topaz helps to clarify the irrelevant.
