We have all heard of acupuncture and how it has been relied upon for centuries to heal a wide array of health problems. This is a very safe and effective therapy option. But, have you ever heard of electroacupuncture? Learn more about this method of healing.

Brief Electroacupuncture Overview

As you can tell by the name, electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture. Acupuncture uses needles that are gently placed into the skin of certain areas of the body. These pin pointed regions are stimulated and send signals to the body and brain in order to effectively heal a condition.

Electroacupuncture is the same concept as acupuncture except for the term electro. This indicates that there is electricity involved with the acupuncture process. The needles are connected to an electric source. They flow with small electric pulses into the skin where they are placed. The method that is being described is also known as PENS which stands for Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.

The electric pulses and needles are not painful. In fact some people cannot feel them at all. Usually the only sensation felt is a slight tingle. This method is a gentle way of stimulating the proper response that is needed within the body.

How can Electroacupuncture Benefit You?

Electroacupuncture is frequently used and is becoming just as popular as standard acupuncture. Illnesses, disease, chronic pain, spasms, neurological disorders, nausea, and so many more problematic conditions are treated by electroacupuncture. There have also been studies and success stories in which electroacupuncture have helped with issues regarding the skin. Acne, dermatitis, etc. have been treated using this method of treatment.

It depends on what type of condition a person has as to the duration of treatment. The kinds of complaints are broken down into four categories:

• Acute

• Sub-Acute

• Chronic

• Recurrent

Acute is basically severe symptoms with a rapid onset. Sub-Acute is not too severe and can come on rapidly but can come and go. Chronic is an issue that has been suffered with for a long period of time and will not go away. Recurrent generally means that the injury or symptoms returns because of certain triggers.

Electroacupuncture is also used for tissue repair, the repair of broken bones and more severe injures. The internal systems are also stimulated with electroacupuncture. This can be highly beneficial and provide a more effective result than acupuncture which has served with a high level of efficacy throughout the centuries.
