Article by Lisa Lambson (5,302 pts ) , published Oct 26, 2009

Chakras are a major part of natural and alternative healing methods. By using chakra balancing and healing, it is possible to prevent, treat and remove physical disorders that have been created due to inbalances in your body.

Symptoms and disorders are a result of unbalanced chakras. Sometimes they need to receive energy because they are deficient and sometimes they are excessive and need to release energy. Using various techniques, you can redistribute the energy to balance and unblock your chakras. During times of illness and aging, chakras slow their spinning and begin to collapse. Daily meditation, aromatherapy and the use of gemstones can help maintain the chakras.

Development

The Heart Chakra begins developing between the ages of four and seven years old. This chakra strongly connects you to human love and humanitarianism. It is the center of your chakras and it helps to balance the one above and below it. Damage while this chakra is developing can affect our ability to relate and communicate with others and express love.

Imbalences

The Fourth Chakra imbalances will manifest themselves emotionally with lack of compassion, coldness to other people, negativity, pessimism, vengefulness, critical behavior, jealousy, possessiveness, and difficulties with relationships, loneliness, and financial insecurities.

Physically, an imbalance in the Fourth Chakra will show itself with high blood pressure, respiratory problems, heart problems, circulatory problems, immune system deficiencies and insomnia.

Restoring Balance

Gemstones and essential oils can be extremely helpful when balancing the chakras. By using them during meditation or other therapies, balancing can be achieved more quickly and completely. The Fourth Chakra is associated with the gems emerald, aventurine and rose quartz and the essential oil scents of Jasmine and Rose.

The element of the Fourth Chakra is the air and is ruled by your breath. To increase your air energy, breath work is a powerful energy exchanger and adds the benefit of cleansing the body, purifying the mind and dissolving blockages. To decrease your air energy which can lead to unpleasant situations, stay balanced in your Root Chakra and keep your focus with daily life and living in the now. Maintain gratitude and forgiveness.
