Some natural remedies for burns are best used in combinations. In this article, several herbal concoctions are discussed which can soothe, heal and repair burned skin. For more natural remedies for burns, see the remaining articles in this series.

Golden Seal, Myrrh and Boric Acid

The combination of golden seal, myrrh and boric acid makes one of the most powerful natural remedies for burns. These ingredients are soothing, healing and especially effective against deep burns.

Combine 1 teaspoon each golden seal, myrrh and boric acid in 1 quart of boiling water. Allow the mixture to cool for 30 minutes. Strain off the clear liquid and apply to burns with a clean, cotton cloth.

Valerian, Skullcap and Peppermint

A tea made of these three healing herbs, when consumed, is one of the best internal natural remedies for burns. They stimulate circulation to the burned area and will effectively aid the healing process.

Combine one teaspoon of each herb in one cup of boiling water. Mix thoroughly and consume 1-3 cups per day as needed. Do not exceed 3 cups per day as valerian can have a sedative effect.

Golden Seal, Myrrh and Cayenne

An herbal liniment made of golden seal, myrrh and cayenne is another of the most effective natural remedies for burns. It must be made ahead of time but will reduce swelling and ease the pain accompanied by burns and blisters.

Combine 2 ounces powdered myrrh, 1 ounce powdered golden seal, ½ ounce cayenne pepper in 1 quart of rubbing alcohol. Allow the mixture to sit for one week, shaking well every day. Decant, bottle and apply directly to burns. The liniment may be made with golden seal omitted, if necessary.
