Windows Mobile is a range of operating systems released by Microsoft for portable devices such as mobile phones and PDAs. The Windows Mobile range has been renamed to Windows Phone Classic with the release of Windows Phone 7.
The first Windows Mobile operating system to be released was Pocket PC 2000, followed by Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6. Windows Phone 7 is the successor to Windows Mobile 6.
Windows Mobile makes up about 5% of the smartphone market in 2010 Q2, placing it behind other mobile operating systems such as iOS, Android, RIM and Symbian.
