A Guide to the History of Windows 2.0

Early Windows LogoWindows 2.0 is an operating system released by Microsoft in 1987 as the successor to Windows 1.0. It featured the ability to overlap windows, which was a feature left out of Windows 1.0 to avoid similarities with the Macintosh OS of the day.

Windows 2.0 was the first Windows operating system to run Microsoft Word and Excel. It also shipped with a number of familiar applications such as Notepad, Paint and Write (and early version of WordPad).
