Your Expert Guide to Tigers

Amur TitleThe tiger (scientific name Panthera tigris), is one of the four iconic "big cats" known to man. The species is found mostly in Eastern Asia, and has nine known sub-species. With a distinctive orange coat with black stripes, the tiger is a popular cultural and personal symbol, and is often found in zoos, circuses, and other entertainment venues.

Despite its popularity, it has been hunted for sport and for its body parts, as well as for personal pets. Combined with the destruction of its natural habitat, the tiger has been listed as endangered by the IUCN. Many conservation groups now dedicate their attention to helping the species survive in a changing world.
