excelA spreadsheet is a type of computer application that organizes data into columns and rows resembling an accounting worksheet. A spreadsheet application has tools that facilitate the processing of the data by implementing functionalities like automating common mathematical operations to allow the formation of complex formulas. Although there are numerous spreadsheet applications across various platforms, Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice.org Calc are perhaps the most widely used. A spreadsheet application specifically addresses the need of processing mathematical data for various purposes and also to prepare reports complete with graphics and charts.Typically they also contain tools that help analyzing the data. Spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel even make use of VBA to create subroutines to perform repetitive or complex actions.
