Silverlight is a Rich Internet Application (RIA) platform created by Microsoft which allows the creation of interactive multimedia applications to be played within a web browser and from the desktop. It is quite often compared to Adobe Flash. Silverlight is available on Windows and MacOS, and the Moonlight project allows some Silverlight applications to run in Linux. It is also available on some mobile phones, including those running the Windows 7 Mobile and Symbian operating systems.
