Portable Document Format, or PDF for short, is a document exchange standard invented by Adobe System. While everybody thinks about Adobe Acrobat when hearing PDF, the document exchange specification is in fact an open standard with many vendors other than Adobe providing free writing software to create digital files; the reader software on the other hand is free by any vendor known.
