NOAA, which stands for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is a United States agency that does basic scientific research in oceanography, fisheries, meteorology, and global climate change. They provide data for fisheries regulations, and conservation and restoration policies, in the nation's marine and coastal environments. They manage a number of national marine sanctuaries, and are responsible for marine transportation health and safety issues. They run a fleet of marine vessels and aircraft, several environmental satellites, and the National Weather Service which provides the nation's weather forecasts and hurricane tracks, and monitors potential tsunamis.
