The Macintosh (sometimes shortened to Mac) is a
line of personal computers released by Apple. The Macintosh is notable for being the first commercially successful PC to utilize a mouse and graphical interface, and the Macintosh arguably still has one of the best user interfaces to this day. The first Macintosh went on sale in 1984, being introduced by the now famous commercial directed by Ridley Scott named after the year.
Macs enjoyed early success, especially compared to the command line PCs of the day, but Microsoft and Intel have eroded the market share of Macintosh PCs. Proud apple owners now make up about 5% of the PC market.
