The causes of the greenhouse effect in the earth's atmosphere are fromgreenhouse gases that are accumulating there from various sources. Greenhouse gases let short wavelength solar radiation pass through but do not let longer wavelength thermal radiation (heat) coming up from the earth pass through. This causes a gradual increase in the average temperature of the earth - global warming.
