The Complete Guide to Googlebot

googlebotGooglebot is a web crawler used by Google to index the pages available on the internet. Googlebot will read the contents of a web page to discover the links to other web pages, and uses those links to find new pages to index. The Googlebot can be identified by a user-agent string containing "Googlebot" and a host address containing "googlebot.com".

Google offers a number of ways to control the behavior of the Googlebot. This can be in the form of tags and attributes that can be added to web pages, and through the Webmaster Tools web site.
