The Role of the Food and Drug Administration

Glass of Wine FDP Credit xedos4 The Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, is one of several agencies under the umbrella of the Department of Health and Human Services. The cosmetics you use are monitored by the FDA; the food you eat is tracked for safety and to prevent food-borne illness. When a food poisoning outbreak occurs, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and both involved in investigating and tracking down the source of the illnesses.

The FDA also controls the manufacture and production of drugs, medical equipment and veterinary drugs, or drugs for animals. Researchers within the FDA are responsible for conducting and publishing research on medications, foods and tobacco products.
