Firewall Guide

firewallA firewall is a computer security device or software which protects computers from unauthorized operations and attacks originating from the Internet and WLAN. Firewalls which protect entire organizations are often placed in between the Intranet and the Extranet in a so called Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to keep intruders out.

The two most common types of firewalls are packet filters and application gateways. They are configured using deny/allow rules based on packet properties such as port, or application, e.g. blocking instant messaging programs not in line with computer usage policies.

Find here all you want to know about firewalls including useful tips for configuration.
