Desktop applications are those programs that are run on a desktop PC or laptop running an operating system like Windows, OS X and Linux. They are distinct from mobile apps, which are run on smartphones and tablets. Desktop applications tend to offer more functionality and features than mobile apps, but also typically come at a higher price and require a more powerful PC to run.
