The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has been around since 1958. It was created as a response to Sputnik, a Russian sattelite. Its purpose is to provide research opportunities which help maintain American Military superiority. It has been a successful agency, and it's more noticeable success story was the creation of the Internet. At the time in the late 1960's, the cold war between Russia and the United States was in full force, and military planners wanted to guarantee that there would be a national communication system in place in the event of a nuclear war. The result was the creation of the Internet. Become better acquainted with this research agency with expert articles at Brighthub.
