Copyright is a number of exclusive rights which belong to a writer or creator of an original piece of work, e. g. a book. The copyright protects the work from unauthorized copying, distribution and modifications for a predefined amount of time until it enters the public domain, at which point the work is free to use for anybody.
The copyright is an intellectual property right which applies to a wide range of subjects. The owner can license his protected work, grant permission to use it, or transfer the instinctual property as he may wish.
