The complete guide to the Windows Command Prompt

Command Prompt iconThe Windows Command Prompt provides a way to interact with the Windows operating system using a text based interface. Windows has typically relied on graphical interfaces to perform administration and other day to day tasks, but recent versions of Windows have placed a greater emphasis on providing tools that work from the command prompt.

The command prompt is used predominantly for system administration tasks thanks to the ease at which applications that run from the command prompt can be scripted. Microsoft has also released Power Shell, which provides many improvements and enhancements over the standard command prompt.
