A CAB file is a compressed archive file, much like a ZIP file. CAB files are usually used as part of a Windows installation or setup application, and the format is included as part of the Windows Installer platform and Setup API. CAB files can also be embedded in files such as MSI installer files.
CAB files can be created and extracted by a number of applications such as 7Zip, as well as the MAKECAB application from Microsoft.
This guide provides an overview of how CAB files are used, and shows you how to create your own CAB files.
