The National Cancer Institute estimated that in 2010, 22,020 new cases of brain tumors would occur. Brain tumors can be benign, meaning they are not cancerous, or they can be malignant, meaning they are cancerous. Some patients may have a metastatic tumor, in which the cancer spread from another part of the body, such as in cases of breast cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer and melanoma. Several types of tumors exist, such as astrocytomas, medulloblastomas, ependymomas, oligodendroglial tumors and glioblastomas. Here at Bright Hub, you can find articles that provide in-depth information on the different types of brain tumors, the symptoms they cause, and how they are treated.
