Blender is a free and open source 3D modeling application available for Windows, Linux, MacOS, Solaris and Irix, and many other operating systems as unofficial ports. Blender also includes a 3D game engine.
Blender started life as an in house application designed by a Dutch animation studio, was was released as an open source application after a funding drive to raise $100,000. Blender is now actively maintained by the Blender Foundation.
Blender has been used in the creation of several commercials and short films, as well as being used in the pre-visualization of Hollywood blockbusters like SpiderMan 2.
