BitmapData is a class provided by Flash/Flex since Flash 8. The BitmapData class allows developers to easily manipulate images at a pixel level, which is a common task for games and for producing visual effects. Prior to the introduction of the BitmapData class, developers were generally limited to manipulating vector shapes.
Accessing the BitmapData class is generally done through ActionScript, which is the programming language used by Flash and Flex.
This guide presents a number of Flash / Flex and ActionScript tutorials that make use of the BitmapData class to create 2D games, 3D simulations and a number of cool visual effects.
