Looking for a reliable, green laundry detergent? Country Save laundry detergent is an affordable eco-friendly detergent that works well to clean your clothes without the addition of unnecessary ingredients.

countrysaveCountry Save laundry detergent has been an eco-favorite since it's creation in 1977. Made of completely biodegradeable ingredients (all of which are disclosed on the box) and totally phosphate free, it's clean-rinsing formula does not contain added dyes, fragrances, enzymes, or brighteners.

People with sensitive skin (including babies) can benefit from using Country Save laundry detergent. Typical detergents can leave a residue on your clothes which can cause skin irritation. Country Save detergent rinses completely from your clothes, making it an ideal all-purpose detergent to use on clothes and cloth diapers.

Country Save Powdered Laundry Detergent is formulated for use in top-load or front-load washing machines and is HE compatible. A 5 pound box of detergent, which retails for around $9.00, will wash 40 loads in a top-loader or 80 loads in a front-loader. Larger sizes (10 lbs., 25 lbs., and 50 lbs.) are available for increased economy.

Review of Country Save Laundry DetergentRating Excellent

I switched to Country Save Powdered Laundry Detergent after searching for a clean-rinsing detergent to use on my daughter's cloth diapers. I was shocked to learn that even "free and clear" laundry detergents usually contain some ingredients (such as UV-brighteners) that can cause detergent build-up and resulting skin irritation.

In my top-loading washing machine, I use just under 1/4 cup of detergent for a full wash load. When washing diapers, I use only about 1 Tablespoon in a half load. Country Save works well in all water temperatures and with hard water. For cold water washes and hard water, the box recommends dissolving the detergent in a small amount of warm or hot water at the start of the wash. I typically wash clothes in cold water and have only had the detergent not fully dissolve when I forgot to follow these instructions.

Although I previously preferred to use liquid laundry detergents, I find that Country Save powder works great to clean all of my family's clothes. From my husband's grubby construction pants to my daughter's diapers, our clothes come out of the washer clean and fresh. I especially appreciate the lack of fragrance, knowing that truly clean laundry should just smell like clothes!

I am able to buy Country Save detergent locally, but it may be hard to find in most locations. Check to see if your local natural food store carries it, or ask them to order some for you. Country Save is available online, but shipping charges significantly add to your cost per load. Amazon offers a case of 4 boxes of Country Save Powdered Laundry detergent (10 lbs. each) with free shipping here.
