Check out one travel company's eco-tour travel bus and how traveling in a group can help cut the environmental impact of your vacation.

A Different Kind of Green Travel with the Green Tortoise

Green Tortoise is a unique eco-adventure travel option when you are looking to go green on that next vacation. Since its creation back in 1974 out of San Fransisco, the Green Tortoise has followed the environmental ideal that you should leave as little impact behind in your travels as possible. As times and awareness has changed with the growing green movement, the Green Tortoise now uses biodiesel powered tour buses and offsets any footprints through the CarbonFund.org.

An almost commune like style of travel has developed through their use of sleeper coaches. Each biodiesel travel "Green Tortoise" bus is specially crafted to hold up to thirty-six people. The capacity is both for traveling during the day and sleeping quarters, as each bus has custom made seating that turns into additional sleeping areas during the night. The idea is that by traveling in this way, people get a more enriched experience through a group type setting.

Some of the featured eco-adventures include a two to three day trip through Yosemite National Park, a seven day trip along the coastal roads of California and a sixteen day trip that covers Northern California through to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The current popular eco-adventure on the Green Tortoise is the Yosemite National park trip. During this trip green travelers will get to experience first hand the beauty and nature of the Yosemite Valley, Tuolume Meadows and natural swimming in lakes Mono and June.

It is important to note that each adventure travel package comes with a flexible itinerary. This means that sometimes due to weather, road conditions or other unforeseen circumstances the planned and printed schedule is subject to change. Major attractions and adventures will not be skipped but there could be minor attractions and or adventures that could be skipped. Green Tortoise eco-adventures are offered in both the summer and winter seasons.
