Fresh Air

There are several types of commercial air fresheners in a variety of scents on the market but most of them aren’t very long lasting nor do they rid your home of odors. Most air fresheners mask unpleasant odors rather than eliminate them. They don’t actually freshen the air. The most natural way to freshen the air in your home is to open the windows. There’s nothing like a breath of fresh air. Stale air can give your house a stuffy, musty odor. Open windows throughout the house to let the fresh air circulate.

Baking Soda and White Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are two inexpensive, natural products that can help eliminate odors and keep your house smelling fresh. Sprinkle baking soda in garbage cans and rinse with a solution of water and vinegar to remove odors. To remove odors from carpets, sprinkle lightly with baking soda, wait thirty minutes and vacuum thoroughly. Place boxes of baking soda in areas around the home to obsorb odors. Small bowls of white vinegar can also be placed in out of the way areas. As the vinegar evaporates, the odors do also. Sprinkle baking soda in shoes to remove offensive foot odor. When cooking fish, fill a small pot with water and white vinegar and let boil. The odor will dissipate.

Plants and Flowers

Houseplants can make a great improvement in the air quality of your home. Plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen which is why they are so important to our atmosphere and environment. Plants can filter out harmful pollution and toxins from the air in your home. Indoor air is dry air which can irritate conditions such as allergies. Plants can help maintain humidity in the air which lets you breathe easier. Plants also add a lovely touch to the decor of your surroundings. Flowers also make an attractive and fragrant addition to your home. Fill your vases with your favorite fresh flowers. Liven up any room in your house a fragrant bouquet and let the sweet scent permeate your indoor environment.

Candles and Scented Oils

Scented candles are a wonderful way to fill your home with a delightful fragrance. Candles also create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Scented candles come in a variety of sizes, colors and scents so you can fill your space with a variety of pleasant fragrances. Scented oils are a good way to freshen your indoor air also. They come in a variety of scents such as rose, cinnamon, pine, lavender and more. You can make your own air freshener using scented oils. Purchase an inexpensive spray bottle, fill with purified water and add a few drops of your favorite scented oil. Spray to freshen the air and enjoy the scent.
