Safe Non-Toxic Nail Polish

Conventional nail polishes contain many toxic chemicals including formaldehyde, toulene, and dibutyl-pthalate (DBP). Luckily, several companies now produce non-toxic nail polish for concerned green consumers.

Traditional nail polish is a mixture of toxic, potentially harmful substances. The harsh fumes emitted from nail polish as it dries contains formaldehyde, dibutyl pthalate (DBP), and other chemicals that can cause health problems. Acetone nail polish remover should be avoided as well. Because the FDA has lax guidelines regarding the safety of personal care products, these and other harmful chemicals continue to be widely used in beauty products today.

If you like to use nail polish but are concerned about toxic ingredients, you now have a greener choice. Several companies offer safe, non-toxic nail polish and nail polish remover. Be an informed consumer, however, and make sure you know what you're buying. Some products may substitute other chemicals for commonly known nail polish toxins that may not be healthier alternatives.

To quickly and easily determine if an ingredient in a personal care product is safe for use, look it up on the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database.

RE: Safe Non-Toxic Nail Polish
You should also check out Scotch Naturals nail polish. I follow them on facebook and they were just rated the number one safest nail polish on the market with Acquarella. The study was done by the Environmental Working Group. I think they tested a ton of polishes. You can go to their site to check it out.

Non-toxic Nail Polish
Thanks for the leads. I've had trouble finding any nail products that live up to the "non-toxic" claims they sometimes make. The best policy, regardless, is to never take a manufacturer's word - always read the label. If it doesn't state ingredients, call the company before purchasing the product.

Nail Polish Comparisons
Acquarella is the best rated nail polish on the ewg database. I have tried it and think it is beautiful although I do need to be dligent touching it up before bed if needed. I have found many companies advertising "safer" polishes but when I enter the ingredients in the ewg database they often don't rate that well, so I have been sticking to that or Honeybee Gardens (rated 2)

OPI is not advertised as hypoallergenic and on buy on the bases of this recommendation I have since found out that it is indeed NOT hypoallergenic and is full of chemicals that are very bad for you!!!! DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO NAIL POLISH

RE: Safe Non-Toxic Nail Polish
I've just discovered water- based polishes, I've tried a few brands so far, but the best brand i've come across is from the UK called Mezaya
None of my friends even know water based nail varnish exists so i wondered what other people thought of them??
