Greenzer is an online eco-shopping engine that was created to make green shopping easier to navigate. Through Greenzer shoppers can search, review and compare thousands of the latest green products that are out on the market today. At the heart of Greenzer is the belief that economic prosperity should go hand-in-hand with global sustainability and as such is a for-profit company.
Greenzer does have a select set of four guidelines that green products must adhere to in order to be featured through their website. Guidelines for product inclusion are as follows:
- Products must have passed some environmental rating system and be certified as organic.
- Products must meet at least one green attribute such as organic, solar-powered, post-consumer recycled, chemical free, or reclaimed.
- Products must fit into a green category, such as reusable water bottles or rechargeable batteries, that have a lower impact on the environment then their disposable counterparts.
- Product companies must have a commitment to being a low environmental impact production and must strive to offset their carbon footprint.
Green products current listed in the Greenzer system begin with Apparel & Accessories through to Green Luggage & Bags for Travel. All together there are forty-five green products in the online shopping system.
The website is still in beta, meaning that they haven’t finalized their site yet. Once there are enough users to test the system for a period of time and check any bugs that might exist they will release in alpha. Still, even in beta mode the popularity of using a green shopping system like Greenzer is catching on both with consumers and eco-product creators.
One unique quality to Greenzer is the newly added Green Face Off challenge. The challenge pits two alike green products from different companies against each other and users vote on which product is better. Currently, the featured Green Face Off is on organic wine. Greenzer wants to know by consumer vote which is actually a better choice in the end for the eco-minded consumer: choosing conventional wine or organic wine.
