Looking Toward Your Teeth

Dental care is one thing that is often overlooked when someone is attempting to make the transition to an organic, environmentally conscience life. Many of today’s leading dental products contain materials that can contribute to overall water pollution as well as the collection of toxins that we store in our bodies. Making you own natural remedies for gum and dental care with household items is easier than most people may anticipate.

Toothpaste

There are a variety of ways you can make all-natural and environmentally friendly toothpaste, usually based on preference. If you want to make a cinnamon flavored toothpaste you really tap into the cleaning power of baking soda by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda, a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon, and a drop or two of Tee Tree Oil. You can make mint toothpaste by mixing half of a teaspoon of baking soda, half of a teaspoon of sea salt, a drop of clove oil and two drops of mint oil.

Mouthwash

Mouthwash has a similar differential as the toothpaste, but still relies on all-natural ingredients. You can make a mouthwash based in Tea Tree Oil by mixing one and a half cups of filtered water, eight drops of Tea Tree Oil, and seven drops of mint oil. You can also make an herb based mouthwash by mixing two tablespoons of mint and two whole cloves and bowling them in two cups of water. After the water has cooled make sure to strain out the herbs. You can also used diluted vinegar as a mouth rinse. Hydrogen Peroxide is also a common gargle, and can be used for its ability to whiten teeth. Peroxide is also good for treating chronically bad breath. All of these mouthwash solutions can be used before you brush, but make sure they are rinsed out of your mouth well.

Buy According to Your Ethics

The most important thing to remember with oral care is to maintain it continually throughout the day, and it is often better to rely on all-natural ingredients than harsh chemicals. Refusing to purchase products that are not made by the standards of environmental sustainability is one of the first steps to forcing reform in a variety of industries.
