Earth Friendly Fashion Quest Part I

Go green? Yeah, right! If you are a fashion lover at heart (as I am) you may have noticed that most green designs resemble something straight out of a cornfield. Still, I’m willing to scour the fashion earth for a few delicious, designer, green items... care to come along?

A Skeptical Start

I’ll be honest with you—as a self-professed fashion fox, I’m not about to turn in my couture clothing for a hemp skirt and Birkenstocks. But, when my conscience starts to nag me as much as my mother-in-law does, it’s painfully hard to ignore it.

So, I am setting out on a quest to find out what a bit of “fashionable green” tastes like. I promise you (fellow fashion foxes) that I won’t fall prey to all of those truly terrible green designs out there. However, I will bring you all of the gorgeous, green, goodies that I do find.

Stella McCartney

First stop—Stella McCartney. This fashion icon has been around for quite a number of years now. One of the first to start making organic underwear and eco-friendly bags, Ms. Stella has just branched out into the world of loose fitting frocks, coats, and denim after her highly successfully Barneys’ campaign this past summer. Most of the pieces in her new line are comfortable, fashionable, and really quite adorable.

Noir

If you have been following the eco-fashion trend lately, you may have noticed the up and coming Danish fashion label “Noir.” Remove every stereotype that is associated with green fashion, and you will be left with Noir.

True to its name, these designs are dark in every manner. Only the hands of a true artist could take some of the world’s best cotton and turn it into a fabric that resembles leather. The “Illuminati II” collection from Noir is something not to be missed.

Sarah Ratty

UK designer Sarah Ratty is another one to watch. Ratty introduced the “Conscious Earthwear” line to consumers a little while ago, and now she has launched the brand new line “Ciel.” Ratty’s comfy clothes are items that you’ll want to wear.

Faux fur, lots of cotton, and cable knits that you’ll crave are just some of the things that this designer has come up with. While the tee’s are adorable (and perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings), Ratty’s dress collection is pure ethereal beauty.

b-love

Lastly, the Canadian clothing line “b-love” presents unique items that some men will find wearable. Though designers Ben Pakuts and Craig Daniels began their clothing line in Toronto around 2004, the two have since moved to Spain for a bit of fashion inspiration.

All items within this clothing line are made from recycled materials, which have gained the duo some media attention lately. While the clothes are innovative and casual, some men may not find the appliquéd squirrels or birds stuck to these shirts appealing.
