While the other manufactures at the Paris Motor Show 2008 hustle to get attention, will the Toyotas and Volvos be any far behind? Talk about a consumer economy and suddenly, everyone works to gain the consumer’s favor. See what Toyota Motor Company and the Swedish Manufacturer Volvo have to offer this time

Toyota Avensis et all

Toyota is world renowned for its state of the art manufacturing processes, but is that going to help garner attention? Is it going to answer any of those itching questions? That remains to be seen. But Toyota will make heads turn with is beautiful offerings like Toyota Avensis, for instance. This is the third generation Avensis we are talking about and it comes with a stance that should make it look like a full-blown mean machine sports car. Aggressive styling, awesome contours on the body, great styling and more than one choice of engines to choose from -- Toyota Avensis 2009 will have people talking, alright. The others on the stable are likely to be the Toyota iQ city car which can accommodate about 4 adults and has nifty safety equipment like curtain shield airbags which apparently inflate at the rear, behind the rear seats (now everyone is protected, eh?). Yet another Toyota on display might be the AWD, off roader Urban Cruiser (trust Toyota to come up with these monsters)

Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion

“Volkswagen” in German means “People’s Car” and it indeed is. This manufacturer has always gone out on a limb to produce cars that the masses want. With a global appeal and with a footprint even in emerging economies like India and China, the company has come a long way. So what does it have in store for us at the Paris Motor Show? Is it going to be the people’s car manufacturer again? Yes, you bet! With its Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion, which is one of the most efficient models in its passenger car range, it belts out a figure of 26.3 Kmpl and produces almost no emissions (just about 99 g/km of Carbon Dioxide). Now, you know why people like it, don’t you?

Now, does it mean that there is bound to be a serious compromise on the engine’s power and performance? None at all! A timid 1.6 liter TDI common rail diesel makes about 105 PS of power and 250 N-m of torque. The best thing I like about this car is that each part has been designed to contribute to better performance in some way or the other. For instance, even the tires are so designed so as to achieve better rolling resistance. Another example of thoughtfulness goes into the accurately designed gearbox to optimize the power delivery.
