If you want to figure out how to use your Blu Ray player then give this piece a try. It will take you from set up to watching a film.

New Blu Ray Player

The first time that you look at your Blu Ray player it can be a bit scary. More so, than a logical progression from a DVD player should be to the average person. Using your Blu Ray player for the first time can be a bit of a challenge, but you can do it with a little bit of help. Today we are going to take a few minutes to transform you from a Blu Ray novice into a Blu Ray expert. From the store to your first movie night.

The Player and The Disk

Choosing a Player

Just in case you do not have a player yet let’s talk a little bit about picking a player. Most options require the same hook ups and they all play the same disks so your main competition is price and quality. It is best to read reviews online, then go to look at specific models in your price range.

Getting a Disk

Yes, Blu Ray disks will, as a general rule, run you more than a DVD, but most Blu Ray players will also play your DVD’s. You probably won't want to rebuild your entire film collection on Blu Ray just yet. You will know a Blu Ray disk by it’s slim case and the words Blu Ray which should be printed on the top of the case. It is inserted the same way you would insert a DVD.

Playing A Disk

Once your disk is inserted grab your remote. This part will be surprisingly simple on most models. The main Blu Ray disk menu should pop up from here and you can select “play movie” and hit either the play button or enter. You may want to skip over previews with fast forward.

What If It Does Not Play?

Provided that you have everything set up correctly, and you put in the disk properly (as per the users manual, the main reason for problems is getting stuck in the menu’s). If you end up with an unfamiliar screen look for a place labeled “back” or “return to main menu” on your screen. This will allow you to return. If it fails then try turning the player off and back on. Need more troubleshooting help? Try these resources.
