We All Scream for HD Format Projection Screens

Time was when your projection screen was the same format as that of a TV - a boring square 4:3 aspect ratio. But now we've widescreen, high-definition video waiting to explode before our eyes. That requires a HD 16:9 projection screen that is up to the task.

HD Screens For a HD World

Today's high-definition world is all about HD and aspect ratios of 16:9 or more - don't believe me, look at what's playing on your home theater's Blu-ray player. Or DVD player even. But now that big screens are what we want, the best way to view HD is on a really BIG screen. That means getting a HD projector and tag-teaming it with a HD projection screen that can do it justice. As in the following examples from companies who understand that making a projection screen is not just about looks - or 16:9 aspect ratio - alone.

dnp Projection Screens

dnp Supernova Epic CSdnp hails from well outside the US but their American division lost no time in making the Supernova line available to consumers. The big selling point - a high reflective layer that can laugh at the normal levels of ambient light found in most living rooms where a front projector will be used (no dedicated room, sorry).

The latest model is the Supernova Epic CS. It harks back to the days of Cinemascope with a perfectly curved screen. We're taking 2.40:1 here.

Of course it avoids pin focus distortion that would ruin the image - and with a high reflective layer that image will stand out even when the room's far from dark, and with excellent black levels no matter the size (over 100 inches, natch).

Stewart Filmscreen Projection Screens

oasis environmentStewart was one of first to offer HD projection screens and continue to do so. While there has been a certain arrogance associated with the brand (being one of the leaders in the field for so long can do that to you), there's no denying that the company has continued to stay at the forefront with their product line.

The most recent model is the weather-resistant Oasis - designed specifically for outdoor use. And with a screen size of up to 92”h x 124"w, there's no weather resistant LCD to take it on. See it while doing laps or hanging by the Bar-B-Cue grill (with dozens of guests, no doubt). Either way it's one big, sweet view.
