    TomTom Travel Cases

You travel with your GPS. If you did not, it would kind of ruin the point of owning a GPS device. However, this does not mean that you always use your GPS when you travel. Sure, it was a useful tool on the way from Tulsa to Omaha, but, now that you have reached your destination, a quandary appears. What do you do with your GPS? Sure, you can leave it in the car, but then you run the risk of baking or freezing it. Either of those can do potential damage to the GPS system, which is not cheap to repair. You also run the risk of making your car an increased target for thefts. All these reasons mean you should probably bring your GPS device with you. Taking it around in your suitcase or purse will do the job. Unfortunately, it will also leave the GPS exposed to any number of things that may damage it. Think keys, drinks, melted candy, or even the zipper on your pants. Any of those could damage your GPS or its screen. All this means that you are in need of a case.

    Hard or Soft

Because a few soft cases are on the market for GPS devices, you may be tempted to buy one. You may also be tempted to use one that fits your old digital camera. Depending on the type of protection you need, this could be a bad idea. If you want to know whether you should use a soft or hard case, answer these questions:

    • Are you prone to dropping things?
    • Will you be storing the GPS in an environment with sharp objects like your keys?
    • Do you plan on traveling extensively with your GPS?

If you replied yes to any of those, you may want to go the hard shell route. Now, let’s look at some options.

The Tomtom Travel Case for TomTom GO, XL and One GPS Units has enough room to carry all of the accessories for your GPS including the manual. If you want to carry all of your accessories in one case, then this is the case for you because this model will double as in-house storage as well. It even has a strap for carrying. It is a great option for anyone who needs to take their GPS with them but does not have a suitcase or purse to drop it in. This case has a thin plastic shell. At about 1/2 inch thick, it is surprisingly sturdy. It does have some thicker spots around the edges and where the mold made separate compartments. This model closes around the edge with a zipper.

Cool Portable Case for Tomtom ONE Portable GPS Vehicle Navigator + Screen Protector Kit

The Cool Portable Case for Tomtom ONE Portable GPS Vehicle Navigator + Screen Protector Kit is a great case if you are looking to take your TomTom One on the go and if you are looking for a model that you can just put on the loop of your jeans. It comes in a wide range of colors, so you can get one that will match your personal style. Just be aware that you can only really carry the GPS in this case, no accessories. There is only one compartment, and it barely fits the GPS unit. Maybe, if you got really creative, you could fit in the cord, but the charging end (the part that fits in your lighter) would make it next to impossible. These case are snap shut models, which has both advantages (easy to open and close) and drawbacks (it could open accidentally if you bump into a wall). These cases are made of molded plastic.

The Carry Case for TomTom One 125 130 130S 140 140S XL 330 330S 340 340S XL-S Go 930 920 730 720 630 530 520 & Garmin Nuvi GPS is pretty much universal. You can carry your GPS, and it has a small pouch that you can use for your charging cord. This is a great case for a functional personality. It has ample room for your system, and the straps keep things in place well enough. This case is also plastic with a mesh net to hold your cord in one place. The straps keep the model from rolling around in the slightly too big case, which is lined with a softer fabric to prevent scratching of the GPS device screen.
